|The Annual International Berkeley Undergraduate Prize for Architectural Design Excellence 2021|
The 2021 Community Service Fellowship Competition
THIS OPPORTUNITY IS OPEN TO EACH STUDENT WHO PLACED AS A SEMIFINALIST IN THE 2021 BERKELEY PRIZE ESSAY COMPETITION.
Semifinalists who select to compete for a Community Service Fellowship are invited to submit proposals demonstrating how they would use the opportunity to initiate a program or join an on-going program that reflects the content of their proposals. This is an exciting opportunity to explore how to start and/or to participate in an organized project that will assist in the overall understanding and application of the social art of architecture.
Community Service Fellowship candidates are asked to submit a proposal for a specific plan of work in their local community during their college’s Summer break for 2021. The work must occur in the summer of 2021 (Northern Hemisphere schools), or in the winter of 2021 (Southern Hemisphere schools).
The Community Service Fellowship provides a fixed stipend for the weeks in which the proposal for the program you are hoping to create is developed and formally presented, or the participation in the program you have joined is underway. Any specific program costs are treated as part of the overall stipend. If you are linking with an established and recognized organization, they will receive an additional cash contribution to further their stated work.
The requirements for the Community Service Fellowship Proposals are open-ended. The Berkeley Prize Committee looks for both an understanding of the opportunity that is offered and an understanding of the possible ways in which the student's research into the current year's Prize topic might be furthered by this service opportunity.
The winning student(s) will be asked to write a report on their program that will be posted on the Berkeley Prize website. Students are also asked to keep a diary of their time spent developing their ideas for their program, or their work with the established program, portions of which will also be posted on the website.
